The plan is this: Register for a free space, lay out all the awesome stuff you have laying around your studio that you will never use, and trade it for new awesome stuff you might actually use. Items can be traded or given away, but there are no sales.

The event will also be open to the public, so if someone wants to bring an old lamp and trade it for a bust of the pope or a postcard painting, they are welcome to join in on the fun.

All items will have to fit into a 5′x5′ space or table top. You can bring old artwork, tools, materials, anything that is of use to someone that you will never use. Just no trash, please.

For those of you who have yet to make the trip through the slush, you’re in for a real treat next time you see the studio, because SHOP REORG PHASE ONE IS COMPLETE!

Perhaps not completely (we still need to make the table saw table), but phase 1 is pretty much completed and awaiting a dust collection unit. Everything should be completed within the next month or so, so keep a lookout.

BUT it is much brighter and overall happier in the shop now. Which is awesome.

A major thank you goes out to all of who who came out and painted/swept/vacuumed/wired/grunted/ate pizza. We love you.

After a couple of years in the community shop game, we’ve decided that it’s time to give a little tender love and affection to the space.

In the next few weeks, we will begin to install a brand new dust collection system that will run to everything that spews out chips, as well as provide a few sweep ports for easy cleanup.

On February 5th, we will officially begin phase 1 of the shop reorg. We will be pulling the machines away from the walls, painting the walls a bright, happy white, and then rearranging the shop. We also have plans for a new table saw table, which will include TWO TABLE SAWS!!!!! Efficiency is nigh!

Due to these circumstances, the shop will be effectively shut down for the weekend of the 5th and 6th, so plan accordingly. It would be great if anyone from AMMS who uses the shop can give a hand this weekend.

Within a week or so of that, we’ll start on phase 2, which will consist of hanging task lighting where it will be needed and getting the dust collection system connected, and tying up a few loose ends on the look and layout of the shop.

New lights have been added to the exterior of the building!

Three giant halide lamps will now illuminate the facade of Art Making Machine from dusk to dawn, so now you can unload that trunk full of plaster any time you want, and be able to see where you drop your keys.
